BCX is a 24 hour case study that brings together Communication and Telfer students at the University of Ottawa to pair their skills and develop a solution to a business problem. Ten groups work in teams of four to create a 20 minute presentation for a panel of judges with the best team winning. The event concludes with a networking reception that gives employees the chance to meet students eager to kickstart their career, recruit individiuals, and represent your company to some of the most elite students in Ottawa.
Creating a successful event that can bring together 50-100 students in hefty, and as an organization with no profit we rely on sponsorships to make the event happen. Sponsorships go towards hotel and board room fees, food for the participants over the 24 hours, the grand prize, any materials used, and the networking reception.
My name is Brooklyn Patrick, I'm a second year student studying International Management and Marketing at the University of Ottawa. I worked throughout highschool to make a name for myself within the social justice field through chairing, or working with, various clubs such as Ontario Students Against Impaired Driving, Eco Club, Student Senate, Student Council, United Way Youth to Youth Board, and a Youth Advisory Board with my local MP and MPP. I was also elected to represent my entire school board at the Ontario Catholic Student Leadership Conference, and represent the youth in my community with MPPs at Queen's Park and through a press conference fighting for our right to quality education at Parliament Hill. I went on further to attend an exposure trip to a Northern Indigenous reserve where I saw the challenges surrounding indigenous peoples and returned to fight for equality within my school board and put practices in place to aid the community.
Overall, I have been an active fighter for basic human rights and social justice initiatives and have they have proven to be a passion for me.
Based on this experience, I can ensure that my main goal with this event is to put every cent into expanding and ensuring the utmost success for the students as the skills they develop during this conference are crucial to their ability to perform in the real world.
