  • About the event

After sell out performances of #BeMoreMartyn in 2018, Hope Theatre Company return to celebrate the life of Martyn Hett on the second anniversary of his death in the Manchester Arena bombing. Venues currently confirmed for this national tour of England include The Lowry (Salford), Newcastle Live Theatre, Pleasence (London), Crucible Studio (Sheffield) & Brighton Fringe.

#BeMoreMartyn trended on Twitter in the hours after the announcement Martyn's death – but what does it mean?

Manchester based Hope Theatre Company asked eight of Martyn's closest friends and created a unique piece of verbatim theatre using their words. They give a remarkable insight into an extraordinary young man, who transformed each and every one of them.

Martyn’s friends take us on a journey from the cobbles of Canal Street to his legendary Eurovision parties, celebrating Coronation Street, Mariah Carey and Michelle McManus along the way.

Martyn’s outrageous and hilarious take on popular culture is brought to life on stage including his infamous Deirdre Barlow tattoo and the YouTube sensation that is The Audrey Roberts Noise.

This play celebrates the power of friendship and encourages audiences to live life to the full, to be proud of who you are and to #BeMoreMartyn.

This verbatim piece beautifully captured the indefatigable spirit of a very special young man who somehow made the world sparkle a little brighter just by being in it. Beautifully staged and performed, it was a perfect tribute to him and to the city he lovedJulie Hesmondhalgh

    OUR PATRONS
    JULIE HESMONDHALGH & WARREN BROWN

Julie Hesmondhalgh has been a huge supporter of Hope since our inception in 2004. We asked Julie to be Patron not only because her of her work as an actress but because she actively promotes equality and diversity in all her work. As television’s first trangender character in Coronation Street, Julie changed perceptions and challenged attitudes, making Hayley one of the shows most beloved characters.

Julie presented our first Out/LOUD DVD for schools and in 2010 she introduced our production of The Laramie Project – 10 Years Later at The Lowry.

We support Julie’s work with other organisations, including the Sophie Lancaster Foundation, Maundy Relief and Pancreatic Cancer.

Warren Brown has been a member of Hope Theatre Company since our first production of The Laramie Project in 2004. He returned to Hope in 2009 to be a part of the premiere production of The Laramie Project – 10 Years Later, playing the part of Aaron McKinney. Warren first worked with Adam Zane as a student at Salford University and Hope gave Warren his first professional acting job.

We asked Warren to be a Patron of Hope in recognition of his ongoing support and because his journey represents the aims of our company – giving young actors professional experience, nurturing their talents, introducing them to the industry and encouraging them to share their ongoing skills and knowledge with newer members of our company.
