Dear Friends,
Destination Imagination (DI) is a non-profit, volunteer-led, cause-driven organization. The purpose is to inspire and equip students to become the next generation of innovators and leaders. Annually, DI offers seven new standards-based Challenges in STEM, Improv, Visual Arts, Service Learning, and Early Learning. Each Challenge is open-ended and enables student teams to learn and experience the creative process from imagination to innovation. Academic tournaments take place around the world where teams have the opportunity to present their solutions to trained appraisers. Students have fun and gain confidence in their ability to solve any challenge. In working to solve our Challenges, teams learn 21st century skills (creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, citizenship and courage) to build on their unique strengths.
We are a Destination Imagination team of 3/4/5 graders from Southside Elementary in Columbus, IN. This year our team (The Hyper Five) decided to compete in the Scientific Challenge where we had to create and present a story about an Unlikely Attraction in an Unlikely Location. Our team had to build an amusement park attraction using three different scientific concepts, operate the attraction during the presentation time and show its impact on the Unlikely Location. The team competed in the Regional tournament in Columbus and placed 2nd giving us the opportunity to advance to the Affiliate(State) Level where we placed 2nd! The team is now heading to Global Finals in Knoxville, TN on May 23th-26th where we will compete against the best teams from all over the world!
We can’t do this alone so we’re asking you to help us by donating money to help fund our trip. Every donation will help us reach our goal of $5,250. Checks can be written to Southside Elementary. Please send your donation to our team manager Leiyuan Li, 7017 Pinnacle Dr, Columbus, IN 47201.
Very sincerely,
Team – The Hyper Five,
