On the invitation of the Presidency of the Chamber of Deputies, on February 10, 2025, I will have the honour of inaugurating my art exhibition Esodo in the prestigious Sala del Cenacolo, within the Vicolo Valdina Complex of the Chamber of Deputies in Rome. The event will run for two weeks, offering a space for reflection and remembrance through the language of painting.
The Chamber of Deputies is generously providing this distinguished venue, while I will personally oversee every organizational aspect: from the exhibition setup to the production of the catalogue, from critical contributions to communication efforts.
The project features a series of 23 paintings that intertwine the language of surreal realism with metaphysical suggestions, drawing inspiration from archival photographs, documentaries, and family memories. The works, characterized by a profound exploration of colour, evoke an atmosphere of tension and pathos, capturing the terror of the victims and the anguish of the exiles.
Esodo was conceived to commemorate, through a unique artistic lens, the tragedy of the foibe massacres and the exodus of approximately 350,000 Italians from Fiume, Istria, and Dalmatia at the end of World War II. As the son of exiled families from Fiume, I feel a deep responsibility to preserve this memory, often consigned to oblivion or the subject of contentious debates. Through my art, I aim to give voice to a tragedy that profoundly shaped Italy’s eastern border, addressing themes of pain, loss, and resilience.
The narrative spans from the armistice of September 8, 1943, which marked the beginning of the massacres, to the peace treaty of February 10, 1947—a date now commemorated as the Day of Remembrance. Between the terror of the foibe and the uncertainty of exile, the project seeks to illuminate a chapter of Italian history that is often overlooked.
This exhibition is not only a tribute to the memory of the victims and exiles but also an invitation to reflect on the value of history, identity, and the importance of remembrance. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all those who will contribute to making this event possible, helping to preserve a collective memory that speaks to the heart of our nation and the world at large.
A sponsor should support my event, to increase its visibility not only nationally, but also on a global scale.
Nationally: the event, which will be introduced by the President of the Chamber of Deputies, will see the participation of prominent figures in the political scene, art critics and collectors, guaranteeing important visibility and will have significant media resonance through a widespread press review.
Internationally: the distribution of the catalogue in prestigious museums and art institutions of international importance, such as the Getty Museum, MAXXI, the National Gallery of Art Library in Washington and the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, etc.
I am an artist with a distinctly international vocation, I was born in Piacenza, where I currently reside, after having lived and worked for approximately sixteen years across various European and African countries. I am a member of the Professional Artist Association and hold an MBA in Mastering the Business of Art from the Professional Artist Institute, as well as an MBA in Business Administration from Edinburgh Business School/Heriot-Watt University.
My artistic journey did not follow a conventional path; instead, my pictorial language has evolved over the years through a continuous process of experimentation with different techniques and styles.
My work seeks to recreate atmospheres that transcend the visible, delving into the inner world of emotions. Through the depiction of surreal realism, particularly in my series dedicated to water, I aim to present paintings that, through compositional dynamism and vibrant color, evoke endless sensations of movement, freedom, stillness, and suspension. In tackling complex compositions, I embrace the challenging task of capturing water, light, transparency, and reflections within a perpetually shifting medium.
My latest artistic project focuses on the psychological portrayal of individuals and situations linked to the tragedy of the foibe massacres and the exodus from Istria and Dalmatia. Here, I explore atmospheres of pain, anxiety, and emptiness, crafting an almost surreal and metaphysical context rendered through a darker, more neutral palette and figures that are only faintly sketched.
My works have been exhibited in numerous national and international events, including the 59th Venice Biennale in 2022, where they were featured in the National Pavilion of Granada, and my solo exhibition Aqua in New York. Several private collectors, including Maestro Riccardo Muti, as well as galleries and institutions in Italy and abroad, have acquired my pieces. Additionally, I have donated artworks to charitable initiatives, such as The Better World Fund for The David Lynch Foundation event during the 2022 Venice Film Festival, and two paintings to the Mater Ecclesiae Monastery in Lagos, Nigeria.
My work has received significant recognition, including the Premio Arte, and has been featured in various art magazines and books, such as Watercolor – Paintings by Contemporary Artists, where I was the only Italian artist selected.
