Face to Face is the largest, most comprehensive arts in education conference in New York State. Through a wide variety of panels, workshops, reports, and other presentations, the conference gives arts in education practitioners the opportunity to think deeply and learn more about arts in education.
Conference Highlights
The conference offers something for everyone: arts administrators, teaching artists, school personnel, parents, and representatives of community-based organizations. An array of exciting presenters share best practices; discuss local, state, national, and international policies; and address enduring issues such as quality, assessment, sustainability, professional development, equity and inclusion, and art and social justice.
With a sponsors support, the Roundtable will continue to offer resources to arts practitioners—including teaching artists, education directors, administrators, and teachers—that deepen student learning and achievement, promote effective assessment, and make arts education more accessible and inclusive throughout New York. While conference expenses have risen by 69.14% since 2014, we’ve intentionally kept registration rates flat, with only a ~$15 increase over 5 years. A conference sponsor will help registration remain affordable to 550+ attendees from across the 5 boroughs, broadening access to Face to Face's significant resources and impacting arts education in New York City.
The New York City Arts in Education Roundtable is a service organization and a community of arts education practitioners sharing resources, providing professional development, and communicating with the public to promote our work in schools and beyond.
NYCAIER began in 1992 as a cohort of arts administrators who sought to professionalize arts education allied around the goal of making it essential to NYC education. Built on a model of peer-initiated professional learning, these leaders formed a new community of practice, laying the groundwork for arts education advocacy and field building. Even as the field grows, 27 years later, NYCAIER remains the primary convening body for NYC arts education practitioners; in its 26th year, the signature Face to Face (F2F) conference has grown from 40 to 550 arts education practitioner attendees annually.
Today, NYCAIER is a not-for-profit service organization providing PD, strategic field leadership, support, community, and amplified advocacy for arts education. NYCAIER’s primary function is to ensure the sustainability of the arts education community and promote a culture of continuous improvement from lessons learned in classrooms and through research. NYCAIER builds its efforts around the value that arts education should be a right for all NYC students, especially for those who live in low-income neighborhoods.
Our membership includes 900+ arts education practitioners from 115 organizations. The membership represents NYC’s largest and smallest cultural institutions, community-based arts-education organizations, youth development organizations from all five boroughs, as well as individual educators. Examples of our members, demonstrating the range of organizations involved, are: Theatre Development Fund, Midori and Friends, Apollo Theater, Queens Museum of Art, Orchestra of St. Luke's, BRIC Arts Media, and the NY Philharmonic.
NYCAIER programmatic activities include: the annual field-building F2F Conference (2-day flagship event and largest in NY), eleven monthly PDs, an Arts Education job fair, and networking meet-ups.
