Raise awareness for Basi Ya Kongo - new charity devoted to empowering women of DRC affected by sexual violence . The event aims to have talks, entertainment and networking with the diaspora community in London to highlight the needs and wants of the women of Congo who are sexually abused and niglected and how we can re-educate the population to achieve equality
Not only is the subject matter of great importance but they should want to be part of a new way of thinking and support the concept of Africa beyond aid. They should also want to sponsor home grown talent and initiatives. Basi ya Kongo is a charity run by women for women to empower and inspire women and girls. With all our sponsors we will have a great dedicated relationship where we equality support their initiative too.
My name is Charlhene Kalonji, I was born in Zaire (DRC) I came here as a child and I’ve been here since 1995 I have previously worked for Sainsbury’s Plc for over 14 years and worked for BQ as Manager. I recently reached a personal triumph from heart failure and wanted to work for a more meaningful cause. Having been sexually abused myself I wanted to help those less fortunate find a way to value themselves and demand value from society as most of the women sexually abused in DRC are often neglected by their own families. This is personal and it’s a duty to want to help them because I have i great support group around me and they don’t. That’s my short history and passion.
