About the event

Since the founding of Xiamen University (XMU) in 1921 by a Mr. Tan Kah Kee, the university has been developing with a vision of becoming a world-class institution that has a distinctive global outlook. In 2015, XMU became the first major Chinese university to set up an oversea campus with the establishment of Xiamen University Malaysia. This achievement of deep-rooted spirit of XMU and international cooperation between China and Malaysia has since set a new standard of global outreach for the institution.
XMUM continues to carry the vision of its mother campus and strives to nurture young talents that come from different nations of the world. In its current stage, XMUM has created a vibrant international community in its campus that consists of students and staff from Malaysia, China and many other countries.

XMUM Global Village 2019 is an event set to happen in October of 2019 that is co-organised by Youth Leadership Association (YLA), AIESEC in XMUM and Xiamen University Malaysia Business Association (XMBA). As a second version of Global Village event, XMUM Global Village 2019 holds the same core principles to involve students of different nationalities in the campus and to provide an occasion of interactions between cultures.

In XMUM Global Village 2019, there will be a cultural night (also known as Globathon night) where booths, workshops and performances happen. Globathon night will be a one-day event that showcases the uniqueness of the many countries involved and workshops on cultural features such as music, art and languages. The climax of Globathon will be a series of performances by various clubs of XMUM and other independent performers (e.g. music artists). After Globathon night, there will be a 2-day exhibition on cultural items, artifacts and costumes that present information about different countries around the world.

Why should you sponsor?

This is a cultural integration event in which the students with multimational background gather and interact among each other. We believe that this event is able to eliminate the barrier between international and local students and thus promote cultural integration and unity among the students. Hence, we sincerely hope that there would be any organization or any individuals who sponsor us so that the event could run smoothly. Thank you.

Swee Ting Toh

I am one of the organizing chairperson of this event which named "Globathon 2019". At the same time, I am also the president of Xiamen University Business Association (XMBA). I like to organize meaningful events which benefit students. The idea of organising this kind of event is because I wish to group the students in XMUM together without counting on religion, nationality, and so on.
