About the event

Hue Design Collective began in the Spring of 2015 as the brainchild of design director Alphonso Jordan. In an effort to build a community of like-minded designers and developers, he invited three other designers to the conversation. What started as four people in a GroupMe chat, has eventually grown into more than one hundred active members. Parallel to this is a nine-member Slack group, where intensive planning for our summit occurs. It is an organic, communal-effort to grapple with the lack of designers and developers of color in the design industry. We realized that in order to truly address the low numbers, we had to create an organization to unite designers & developers within the school-to-industry pipeline. Hue Design Collective serves a multitude of purposes; from networking and feedback opportunity to youth outreach and workshop education. Our mission is simple: to build a community for designers and developers of color.

July 26-29, 2018 will be our second annual Hue Design Summit in Atlanta, GA. Organized as a 4-day un-conference, the programming will include skill-building activities, mentoring initiatives, and organized topic-driven conversations.

We are a collective of creative individuals who believe that in order for a community to flourish, there must first be a community. We are a collective who see the need to shift from old social paradigms and want to emerge as the influencers of a new age - where designers of color are given the space and tools necessary to advance in the ever-changing world of tech.
