About the event

Iya Oba is a one woman musical devising collaboration with one of the most compelling African musicians of our time, Paris based Franck Biyong.  This authentic stage production is the powerful immigrant story of an African mother in a strange land played by Tosinger. It aims to connect the diaspora to the traditional culture of Africa beyond the stereotypes. It is a production that is heavy on storytelling, monologues and singing.

It is a cultural production that a lot of people will want to see having had the Black Panther movie craze that has sensitized people to Africa and its beauty and culture. People want to see more creative work that expresses more of this.

African secular theatre has returned to its own sources, and practitioners as well as researchers have once again found in these ancient forms the roots of a renewal, and have again connected African theatre to those rituals, dances, masquerades, tales and folk celebrations which have for so long been the centre of the continent’s theatrical arts - culled CriticalStages

Dreamweavers Entertainment is a creative arts event planning company with a focus on the African narrative. Also an event producer, curator and promoter who has been in the business since 2010. Previous events organized include Afrodreamfest (https://www.youtube.com/user/AfroDreamFest), a touring city concert that promotes local African indie artists and musicians in that city and gives them a space and a stage to co-perform, Zulu Sofola's "Wedlock of the gods" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zV5YHPvvQGw) an Afrian stage theatrical production in Atlanta, Georgia and Terra Cotta Open Stage Fridays, a weekly open mic style for afro music artists to express in Atlanta, Georgia.
