“Going into its 21st year, the Scriptapalooza Screenplay Competition has a lot to be proud of, 2 LifeTime movies made, numerous scripts sold, 2 Emmy winners, over 50 scripts optioned and the list goes on and on,” says Mark Andrushko, President and co-founder of Scriptapalooza. Realizing how thirsty his producers/agents contacts were for scripts, Mark started a screenplay competition that has grown to be one of the world’s most recognized and with a $10,000 grand prize.

In 1998, with very few contacts, Mark started cold-calling producers around LA and pitching the winners from Scriptapalooza. Soon, the word spread around town and Mark was courted by agents, managers and producers all looking for scripts. 

Mark attended DePaul University in Lincoln Park and did a brief stint at the Chicago Board of Trade. First generation Ukrainian, his parents born in Ukraine, came to America for a better life...and were hoping that Mark would follow in his father’s footsteps into the banking world, instead Mark headed to Hollywood, where the top currency is great writers.
