The Ridiculous Brunch & World Cup Party,

New York, New York, United States New York, New York, United States

  • About the event

A Ridiculous Brunch (& World Cup Final Screening) is a launch event for a new media production company, Ridiculous People Productions. The event will feature a screening of the 2018 World Cup Final, a full brunch buffet, special themed drinks, and plenty of social media sharing opportunities, including a branded social media wall where guests can take selfies and show off their team pride!

With the funds raised during this event, we will produce a sketch comedy show with pieces written by women and POC and covering topical issues ranging from the immigration crisis to Beyoncé’s latest album. We will also begin production on a short film written and directed by the company co-founders about a young woman searching for a fulfilling career.

    Why should you sponsor?

Ridiculous People was founded on one principle: Collaboration is queen. We view our sponsors as collaborators — “producers,” if you will. This title can mean whatever the sponsor wants it to mean. But we believe the more people get involved in a creative endeavor, the more interesting it will be.

Our first project was a short comedy produced in 2016 called “Hot Girls Aren’t Funny,” currently available on YouTube. We raised over $3,000 from small donors in less than a month and were able to support a huge cast and crew on a phenomenal set. It was important to us that we collaborated with our contributors and we were very grateful for their input. We believe this type of fundraising, complete with audience involvement and small contributions, is the future of media funding. We encouraged our contributors to think of themselves as producers. We value personal connections, so we reached out to contributors individually and welcomed their input. Likewise, we want our sponsors to be a part of the event. We won’t consider it completed until you as a sponsor have been fully integrated into our process. The degree to which you participate is completely up to you, but it’s very important to us that the communication channel is open.

Our audience is unique as well. This event will host Millennials from about 22-37 in the film and television industry. While the company is female-oriented, we welcome people from all genders and orientations, and the guests will be more diverse than a UN conference. Many are ex-pats, travelers, and nomads. They’re adventurous and open-minded and love trying and experiencing new things. They’re also social media savvy and ready to share every moment of their lives. Sponsoring this event will give you access to a fascinating and elusive audience of young people thirsting to learn about, experience, and share new things.

    Liv Senghor

We’re Liv and Alex! We’re graduates from NYU’s Tisch school of the arts — Liv majored in Film & TV and Alex in Drama. We founded Ridiculous People in college, first as a collective of creative women looking to create forward-thinking and funny content, then slowly becoming a full-fledged production company.

Liv was born in DC and grew up all over the world — from Munich to London to China to Palo Alto. She speaks four languages and values herself as a strong communicator. She’s a writer, director, editor, and designer currently working in late-night. She also watches international soccer, advocates for racial equality and immigrant rights, and writes fiction, non-fiction, and whichever category news falls under these days.

Alex Shannon is a writer, actor and producer based in the Bushwick-y part of Queens. Alex wrote and directed “OPEN” – the first episode of her female-centric web series about millennial romance, set to premiere in 2018. Her play Water Strider/Jesus Bug was chosen runner-up for the 2017 Judith Barlow Prize national playwriting competition and she’s a regular contributor to political docu-zine Femme Mâché.
