  • About the event

    Underground Wine Events, was established to bring consumer awareness and attention to small, independent wine producers who represent the past and the future of the wine industry. This grand tasting of 15 boutique wineries from California, represents an alterative to large, factory-style winemaking -- for wine lovers, these are people and families doing exciting things in wine and keeping traditions of winemaking alive. 

    This sold out event, at George Washington University in Washington D.C. is our second event. The inaugural event was a sold out event held in Healdsburg, California on February 24, 2018 featuring 15 wineries that all produce less than 8,000 cases of wine with 150 affluent, educated attendees that were passionate about good values, wines, and supporting local families.  

    The SOLD OUT event in Washington D.C. will host 175 of educated, affluent, wine-loving consumers from all over the East Coast and Midwest. There is a waiting list to attend.

    Why should you sponsor?

    Underground Wine Events is a growing movement that seeks to connect wine-loving consumers with small, family owned wineries that have little visibility or marketing moxie, but who are all about making small, hand-crafted wines. As consolidation has taken hold in the wine industry, these craftspeople are finding it harder and harder to reach the people who have the most desire for their products. Underground Wine Events makes it easy for consumers to connect with a small, curated selection of wineries who make outstanding wine but who are hard to find. 

    This sold out event at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. will host 175 consumers with the following demographics*:

    Age: 62% 21 to 44,  35% 45 to 64

    Gender: 47% Male, 53% Female

    Education: 87% College or Graduate Degree

    Income: 65% $100K+/year

    Wine Drinking Frequency: 82% Drink at least 3 to 5 times/week, 30% Drink every night

     

    This highly desireable audience is an excellent group for anyone looking to showcase high end products that would be appealing to wine drinkers. 

     

    The event is being held in connection with one of the founder's businesses, "Wine for Normal People." This is a podcast with a global reach and more than 3 million downloads (roughly 100,000 per month). Elizabeth Schneider, host and author of the upcoming book "Wine for Normal People" will be offering social media mentions to her Twitter followers (13.8K), Facebook followers (7.5K), and Instagram followers (2K). If you have a consumer product, Elizabeth will also add your product to her online store for sale to her audience.

     

    Given the early success and consumer interest, this is the second of many events for Underground Wine Events. Any sponsor who comes on board will have right of first refusal for future events.

    Elizabeth Schneider

    Underground Wine Events is a two-person operation run by two women who worked in the corporate wine world.

     

    After working for large wineries ourselves and seeing the mass consolidation and corporatization of first Napa and now Sonoma and other parts of California, we feel passionately that there is a need to create a campaign of sorts to bring your names and stories to the forefront of the media and to the minds wine lovers. 

     

    Elizabeth Schneider, Certified Sommelier and MBA, has an award winning podcast that receives over 100,000 downloads per month, a large social media following, and is about to publish a re-imagined primer on wine called "Wine for Normal People." The questions she receives time and again from listeners visiting wine country or looking for new wines to try is: "Where can I get the stuff from the small guys? How can I find the off the beaten track wineries?"  

     

    Laura Perret Fontana is a social media marketing consultant for the wine industry. She is the daughter of owners of a mom and pop winery in St. Helena. She is a respected public relations and marketing professional who has worked for large and small wineries all over the North Coast. She has seen the changes throughout the wine industry and looks at this event as a chance to make a difference for people like her parents.

     

    In considering this problem, we envisioned an event to bring "Underground Wine", or great, but lesser known producers, above ground! Our events are always intimate, to give consumers, producers and sponsors a real chance to interact with one another and form real connections. Our events are elegant, 3 hour catered affairs that have an extremely personal touch.
