About Said Kipandu

Said Kipandu is a development professional based in Zanzibar, Tanzania, with experience in Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL), sustainable agriculture, organic farming, community engagement, youth and women empowerment, and programme coordination.

He currently works with the Practical Permaculture Institute Zanzibar (PPIZ), an organization promoting practical permaculture, regenerative agriculture, sustainable food systems, ecological restoration and resilient livelihoods among farmers and communities in Zanzibar.

Through his work, Said has been involved in designing and monitoring development programmes, collecting and analysing programme data, documenting impact, supporting farmer training, preparing donor reports, and developing monitoring and learning systems. His work has exposed him to the realities facing smallholder farmers, particularly challenges related to food security, soil degradation, dependence on imported food, limited market access, climate change and the transition toward sustainable and organic production.

Said has contributed to programmes supporting farmers, women, youth and agricultural extension stakeholders. These initiatives have included organic agriculture training, permaculture, Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS), farmer group development, home gardening, seed networks, market linkages and community awareness.

He has also contributed to the Zanzibar Organic Festival, an important platform for promoting organic agriculture, healthy food, sustainable livelihoods and public awareness around Zanzibar's food systems. The festival brings together farmers, consumers, government institutions, private-sector actors, development partners, civil society organizations, young people and other stakeholders to promote a stronger and more sustainable organic sector in Zanzibar.

Said is particularly passionate about creating opportunities where farmers, young people and communities can become active participants in building Zanzibar's sustainable food future. He believes that organic agriculture is not only an environmental issue, but also an opportunity for improved livelihoods, healthier communities, youth employment, local enterprise development and greater food-system resilience.

His professional strength lies in combining data and evidence with practical community engagement and communication. He is interested in using monitoring, learning, storytelling and digital tools to demonstrate the impact of sustainable agriculture initiatives and communicate their value to communities, institutions, partners and potential funders.
