About the event

HIFF's inaugural 'Ōpio Fest is a series of free community screenings in Honolulu, Hawai'i to showcase the best creative work of K-12 students. Students will have an unforgettable weekend to celebrate their work with a youth celebrity ambassador to present awards. Past ambassadors include actress Auli’i Cravalho, director Destin Daniel Cretton, and actors Harry Shum, Jr. and Jacob Batalon.

Ross Matlin

Ross was born and raised on O’ahu and is a graduate of the Screenwriting Program at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. After working with production companies, film festivals, and Emmy-winning actors in Los Angeles, Ross now works with HIFF as the Partnerships Manager, for which he builds relationships with local and national brands to sponsor HIFF’s events. A former drummer, persistent writer, and avid marathoner, Ross is excited to work with HIFF and the growing network of Hawai’i-based creatives.
