  • About the event

Pride on the Plaza is a landmark event hosted by OutLaw, the LGBTQIA+ nonprofit organization at George Mason University’s Antonin Scalia Law School. This event, held during LGBT History Month in October, aims to bring together LGBTQIA+ organizations from all of the many law schools across the Washington D.C. Metro area for an evening of pride, visibility, unity, celebration, networking, and entertainment. Located on the newly renovated Mason Square Plaza in Arlington, VA, this event is expected to attract up to 300 attendees and is set to become an annual tradition that will foster OutLaw's mission of furthering LGBTQIA+ Advocacy, Community Outreach, and Community Engagement, including continuing to grow its life-saving Name Change and Gender Marker Change Clinic!

    Why should you sponsor?

Sponsoring the Pride on the Plaza event offers a unique opportunity for businesses and organizations to show their support for the LGBTQIA+ community and align themselves with a cause that values diversity, inclusion, and equality.

    1. Visibility and Brand Exposure: With an anticipated turnout of up to 300 attendees, sponsors will gain significant visibility among a diverse and inclusive audience. Their logo and branding will be included in various event materials, providing widespread exposure.

    2. Community Engagement: Sponsoring this event is a great way for businesses to engage with the local community and show their commitment to supporting causes that matter to their customers and employees.

    3. Networking Opportunities: The event will bring together LGBTQIA+ organizations from law schools across the Washington D.C. Metro area, offering sponsors a chance to network and build relationships with these groups.

    4. Supporting a Worthy Cause: By sponsoring the event, businesses will be directly contributing to the celebration of Pride and LGBT History Month, helping to create a memorable experience for attendees.

    5. Potential for Future Partnership: As we envision Pride on the Plaza becoming an annual tradition, sponsors have the opportunity to establish a long-term partnership with OutLaw and the broader LGBTQIA+ community at George Mason University’s Antonin Scalia Law School.

    Mackenzie Freilich

I am Mackenzie (“Mack”) Louis Freilich, a dedicated and passionate advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community with a strong background in legal studies. Currently, I am a second-year Juris Doctorate Candidate at George Mason University’s Antonin Scalia Law School, expected to graduate in May 2025.

My experience spans various roles. I volunteered at the Name and Gender Marker Change Clinic, an initiative that provides crucial support to the LGBTQIA+ community. I also worked as a Law Clerk at Washington Aviation Group & the Law Offices of Jason A. Dickstein, where I conducted comprehensive legal research and assisted in drafting and editing legal documents. In addition, I served as a Life Crisis Counselor at Trevor Project, where I conducted risk assessments and provided support for vulnerable youth. Each of these experiences has deepened my commitment to advocacy and service.

In addition to my professional experience, I have held several leadership roles at George Mason University. I am the President of the Air & Space Law Society, the President of OutLaw, and a Councilmember for the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Council. I also serve as the Executive Editor for the George Mason International Law Journal.

I am a proud member of several professional organizations, including the Virginia Equality Bar Association, the District of Columbia LGBTQ+ Bar Association, the National LGBTQ+ Bar, and the Human Rights Campaign.

With my strong multitasking abilities, critical thinking skills, and commitment to LGBTQIA+ advocacy, I am dedicated to making a positive impact in my community. I look forward to bringing my passion and expertise to the Pride on the Plaza event."
