CBSN is planning a series of events to welcome and support Chinese and other international students in 2026-27. The Welcome Picnic is the first of these. CBSN has appointed a Chinese UCL postgraduate student as its Student Ambassador to help design and coordinate the programme. So far, 10 members of the CBSN community have volunteered as helpers on the day. CBSN members of two companies and a university art department have offered to host visits for students. Events will be promoted on all the social media channels as well as the Chinese apps WeChat and Red Note.
Sponsors of the CBSN Welcome Picnic will be supporting much more than a single event. They will be helping Chinese and other international students build friendships, professional networks and confidence as they begin a new chapter of their lives in the UK.
The event brings together students with experienced professionals, entrepreneurs and volunteers who can offer practical advice, encouragement and connections. It is designed to help students settle into life in Britain while creating opportunities for businesses to engage with talented, internationally minded young people at an early stage in their careers.
Sponsors will receive recognition across CBSN's event promotions, website, email newsletter and social media channels, including WeChat and Red Note, reaching a growing UK–China community of professionals, students and internationally minded individuals.
By supporting the Welcome Picnic, sponsors will demonstrate their commitment to international talent, education, diversity and community engagement while helping to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for students arriving in London.
CBSN was founded in 2009 by Grace Wang and held monthly meetings until 2019. The events were sponsored by a legal company operating in the UK and China. In 2019 it ceased running events. The current organisers refounded it in 2024 and initially ran it along the same lines as Grace. The three organisers are Yajie Xu, Charles Palmer and Maggie Song. Further information about each can be found on the CBSN website Home Page https://cbsn.co.uk/ CBSN holds monthly business networking meetings at Lucy Wong Fitzrovia, and social networking events at The Reliance, Old Street.
