COVID and Loneliness Writing Competition,

London, England, United Kingdom London, England, United Kingdom

  • About the event

I am a student currently working towards a project that would raise awareness for loneliness and how it's been impacted by COVID.

I started thinking about this project when I took a step back and examined how quarantine had affected me. The most obvious of these changes was how much less I was seeing other people, and how that was a big change that had a strong impact on my mental health. I’m sure others have had as complex of an experience as me and might feel isolated by this new struggle, so I want to create a way for people from all over the world to voice their opinions.

To do this, I am working on hosting a writing competition online, with the prompt being to write a short essay on COVID and how it’s impacted use of technology as well as mental health. Some of the submissions (20-30 maybe) would be selected to go into a publication that would be published online, making people's stories available to everyone around the world.

The overarching objective of this project is to raise awareness of fluctuating mental health as a result of lockdowns and uncertainty to an audience who may be struggling with these problems themselves. Knowing that they’re not alone would really help because then people would have others to relate to and to take advice from.

    Why should you sponsor?

This writing competition is going to help many people struggling with loneliness, amplifying the voice of those that want to help and that want to be heard.

However, this can only happen with the help of a sponsor because, as with all competitions, a prize is needed. What I need from a sponsor is three book vouchers (£100, £75 and £50 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively). This is a suitable prize because I imagine that people who enjoy writing as an outlet for self-expression will be interested in literature.

Therefore, I am looking for a sponsor with literary affiliations or connections because that would make most logical sense with the prize, but also with the competition. Getting involved as a sponsor would promote your brand to participants not just as a corporation, but also as one that supports charitable causes.

I am a student passionate about changing the world for the better through the power of words, and even from a young age I know that's what I wanted to do. This project is something I have been thinking about for a while, and I can't wait to start it and see the positive effects it will have on so many people.
